Tutors are in demand today in North America, Europe, Canada and some parts in Asia. If you have impressive skills, you can capitalize on them and start your own home-based business. There are two types of tutors that have huge market--the academic tutor and the skills tutors. Academic tutors specialize in academic subjects taught in school. In our time, lessons that were previously taught in universities and colleges are now part of the high school curriculum. With the student-teacher ratio in most classroom, a student is not accorded with due attention to learn and understand the lessons accurately. If they are not effective in self-studying, they may need the help of tutors. If you have excellent knowledge and skills in any of the academic subjects, you can offer home-based tutorials. The start-up capital is almost zero--that is, if you still have in your possession your old academic books. If not, then they are your first investment. Newest edition of most textbooks have alterations, improvements and newest drills. Investing on them is never unworthy. Setting up your classroom at home is important. One room would suffice to have your bookshelves, office table and chairs, and table and chairs for your student and white board in placed. Depending on your strategy, you can accommodate one-on-one class, two-student class, trio and group class. The prices are also dependent on the number of students available for the tutorial and the length of tutorial class. The subjects that you can teach include Math, Science, English, Foreign language, History, Geography and their respective branches and variations. You can also decide the level of students you wish to offer your home-based business in tutorial classes. The choices are elementary, high school and university students. If you are savvy at computer including all of its technicalities and software, this can be your business niche. Other niches that have established markets are musical, technical, vocational and arts. For musical niche, your tutorial lessons are usually based on playing musical instruments such as piano, guitar, drums, violin, sax, harmonica, flute and harp. A home-based business offering musical lessons must have two sets of violin, guitar and drums, and three sets of flutes and harmonica. You and your students can use one piano during hands-on classes. Other technical lessons include fixing electrical and electronic devices like cell phone units, television, computer set, refrigerator, DVD player and more. Depending on your State, some local governments require business permits to operate even home-based businesses. But if you are a freelancer, most likely, business licenses are not necessary. For musical tutorials, having a university degree is not a qualification. In some cases, it does not even require to have a degree for you to teach foreign language and other General Education subjects. Marketing your new found home-based business is not difficult. You can post a neat signage outside your door or on your fence about your tutorial services. You can advertise on the classified section of your local newspapers or on free classified sites on the web. You can also print flyers and business cards and disseminate them at the stores, bakery and shops near your home office.
